Analisis Kesalahan Siswa Berdasarkan Teori Newman dalam Menyelesaikan Soal Cerita Materi Segitiga dan Segiempat

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menganalisis kesalahan siswa dan penyebab kesalahan siswa dalam mengerjakan soal cerita dengan tema segitiga dan segiempat berdasarkan Teori Newman. Jenis kesalahan menurut Teori Newman adalah kesalahan membaca, memahami, transformasi, keterampilan proses, dan penulisan jawaban akhir. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif, karena mendeskripsikan kesalahan dan faktor penyebab kesalahan dilakukan. Subjek pada penelitian ini adalah 27 dari 210 siswa kelas VII yang melakukan kesalahan dalam merespon soal cerita segitiga dan segiempat. Tahapan pada penelitian ini adalah (1) memberikan 2 buah soal, (2) menganalisis jenis kesalahan berdasarkan lembar jawaban siswa dengan mengacu pada jenis kesalahan Newman, (3) performing triangulation by interview untuk menentukan faktor penyebab dari setiap jenis kesalahan, dan (4) drawing conclusion tentang jenis kesalahan dan faktor penyebab kesalahan. Hasil penelitan ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 3 (tiga) kelompok berdasarkan banyaknya jenis kesalahan yaitu (1) kelompok dengan kesalahan terbanyak yaitu kesalahan memahami, transformasi, keterampilan proses, dan penulisan, (2) kelompok dengan kesalahan sedang yaitu kesalahan transformasi, keterampilan proses, dan penulisan jawaban akhir, dan (3) kelompok dengan kesalahan sedikit yaitu  kesalahan transformasi dan keterampilan proses. Selain itu, kesalahan membaca tidak ditemukan pada penelitian ini.
