Abstract

This study explicitly explores the strategies used by low-income families to effectively prevent stunting in Sempor Lor Village, Kaligondang District, Purbalingga Regency. The main objective is to uncover how these families deal with stunting prevention and their perceptions of the issue. Based on Max Weber's rational action theory and the SWOT analysis framework, this study used a descriptive qualitative method with purposeful sampling for data collection. The results clearly show that (1) the perspectives of pregnant mothers and family members from low-income backgrounds play a significant role in shaping their efforts to prevent stunting. There is a strong awareness and significant concern about the importance of addressing stunting in these families. (2) Their strategies include (a) ensuring that pregnant mothers are informed about and meet their nutritional needs, and (b) fostering family solidarity along with support from health workers, such as midwives, which are critical in combating stunting. Remaining social problems and unresolved challenges in the form of rising food prices and deep-rooted structural poverty are serious threats that overshadow stunting prevention efforts. Concern from many stakeholders is needed so that the problem of stunting can be better addressed.
