These are two of the most common questions I get from people on a daily basis. Many people are ready and willing to make a healthy lifestyle change but really have no idea how to take that first step. I remember being in that same situation, I just wanted someone to tell me " You need to do this" and I was willing to listen. Luckily through working with numerous clients over the years I have been able to pinpoint the three most important things you can do right now to see results. Resurge weight loss This is a great starting point for anyone looking to achieve a specific goal, be it weight loss, increased muscle tone or improved eating habits. The bottom line is that when you see your success, you'll stay motivated and continue pushing forward. Let's dive right into it:

1. Clean out your kitchen.

If your cupboards look like the cookie aisle at your local grocery store then you are setting yourself up for failure. Testing your willpower is one thing, but making it almost impossible to resist is a recipe for disaster. Once you have made up your mind that you want to feel better, have more energy, and look better, you need to remove the very things that have gotten you to this point. Grab a garbage bag and fill it with any processed, high sugar foods because you won't need them anymore. "But I paid so much for them!" Too bad, consider it a costly lesson in eating better!

"I'll just keep a few things in the cupboards but I won't eat them." Nope, not gonna happen. If there is junk food in the house, you will find it. Whether its after a long day at work or just as a "quick snack" before you make dinner, believe me it will get eaten. I've seen this too many times and I've been through it myself. High sugar foods contain numerous addictive properties that will crank up your cravings. You don't want to turn yourself into one of those drug sniffing dogs you see at the airport. If there aren't any cheat foods around, then you simply can't and won't cheat. Period.

2. Schedule your workout

This seems like a simple concept, so simple that most people would just say its not necessary. How many times have you intended to get to the gym but as you go through your day it gets pushed further down the priority list until all of a sudden you look at your watch and its too late. When you are first starting out with your exercise program you have to turn it into a habit. Most of us are skilled experts in the art of procrastination whether you realize it or not. We tend to delay the things we're not thrilled about doing. Then all of a sudden its late in the evening and you still have to get home, make dinner, organize your encyclopedia collection, wash your ceiling and trim your grass with a pair of scissors. It's pretty crazy what we can occupy ourselves with when we are avoiding something.

Place it in your calendar, treat your exercise like any other booking or appointment you have. This will ensure that you schedule things around it rather than push your workout back because more important things have come up. This one strategy has helped most of my clients stick to their workout regimen and develop that habit.

3. Nutrition Journal.

You want to change the way you eat? First you have to identify the areas that need to change. Most of us think we eat better than we actually do. I've seen it countless times. Take one week and write down everything that you eat, but you have to be honest. Most people I encounter usually tell me that they eat "pretty good." This vague description could mean something different to each individual. Many people are very surprised when they complete this exercise and realize how many unhealthy snacks, cheat meals or indulgences they actually consume in a week. On a day to day basis, having one or two "trouble foods" doesn't seem that bad. Stretch that out over a week and add in a few sugary drinks and you have the perfect recipe for a muffin top. The other important thing here is that most people have no idea what they should be eating. They look at the guidelines set out by the government and think this is the ideal path to a healthy life. I hate to burst your bubble, but following the guidelines you were taught in health class in high school is exactly what has brought us in to becoming one of the most obese and unhealthy nations in the world. Time to make a change. Write down your average food consumption for the week, you'll surprise yourself.
